MARINE CORPS LEAGUE HISTORY
FOUNDED IN HONOR, BUILT TO LAST
The Marine Corps League was founded in 1923 by World War I Veteran of Belleau Wood, Commandant of the Marine Corps, then Major General John A. Lejeune.
On August 4, 1937, the U.S. Congress Congressionally Chartered the organization as a Veteran Service Organization. It maintains a 501c4 non-profit status with the Internal Revenue Service with special tax exemption.
DETACHMENT HISTORY
VETERANS OF SMALL TOWN FRIENDLY
The charter for MCL Detachment 1221 was granted on December 2, 2005.
Our founding members established this detachment with a simple but enduring mission: to serve the veterans of Rutherford County and to maintain the bonds of brotherhood and camaraderie forged through military service. Our membership includes veterans, family members, and supporters from multiple generations. Together, we stand united in our commitment to one another, to all veterans, and to the community we are honored to serve.

OUR NAMESAKE
CHRIS S. EBERT – DETACHMENT 1221
Our detachment proudly bears the name of Cpl. Chris S. Ebert, honoring his service, sacrifice, and dedication to the Marine Corps and the community he served.
A native of Mooresboro, NC, Chris joined the Marine Corps immediately after graduating high school in 2001. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Devision, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. On September 17, 2004, Chris paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb while deployed to the Al Anbar Province in Iraq.
